Extraction Mindset

I think we can’t get away from the fact that every single thing we do is based on an extraction model. Like there’s not anything that isn’t an extraction, including solar and recycling. Getting the chicken out of the egg, or the other way around or both, it’s still an extraction model! But in some cases we get to put things in and get something out — chicken feed, get an egg!

And there’s no way to get out of commerce, I don’t think. Because we need things. Maybe we’ll come up with a better way to share things. But that’s what commerce is – a way to share things.

And I think that’s led us to the path to the circular economy, right? How do we share across a value chain – extract value that’s economic so we can not only live our lives – but continue it in the supply chain in the circular model versus linear, which has led to waste and other GHG (Green House Gasses)? Perhaps that is the solution to go to. It’s gotta be a bit of a mind shift on how you’re extracting value, whether it’s in service or it’s truly something that’s coming out of nature.
