So for durable goods, I think companies need to really think very carefully about the benefits and drawbacks of the places they’re using plastic parts. And then because if they replace it with something that is less durable, the whole product is going to end up in a trash bin in two years instead of lasting 10 years.
Then that is not a helpful solution.
If replacing a plastic part with some other material is going to make it last just as long, but that part might cost a little bit more, they need to figure out and make the math work in terms of how they’re pricing the product. Can they get volume discounts?
And there may be other ways that they could save money by changing something else about the product. So they can look holistically at the entire product design. And I think that’s an important thing.
