There’s a statue of a famous writer in this very big park in the middle of Budapest. So I spent a lot of time in Hungary. I’m a Hungarian citizen as well now.
And so there’s this big statue and I use my Google Translate to translate what this big stern face was saying of this writer and he said, “Every Hungarian is the responsibility of every Hungarian.”
And where is that message in America today? That’s one of my questions.
So we need to be thinking about how we take care of each other. And not in a coddling way. This is where the Humane Leadership comes in.
It’s not about being the school nurse and giving everybody a Band-Aid and a hug. There’s another way of loving each other, which has to do much more like maybe with a good sports coach or a teacher who pushes you and knows they’re holding a reality for you that’s bigger than what you can imagine for yourself.
And they can see it, and they’re going to hold you to that. And both of those are necessary.
