We don’t wanna grow acres and acres and acres of crops to make plastics. This sounds like a very bad idea. Because of all the water and energy and everything used to grow the crops.
If we’re growing crops, we should grow them to feed people, not to make plastics. But there is agricultural waste that otherwise wouldn’t be used for anything, and that could be used to make plastics.
